A trainer for the WISO entrance exam at WU

We are building a trainer for the three areas of the exam: economics, German and maths. Tasks in WU's format, scored with WU's partial-credit rules. Below is one task from our bank.

Our approach

Try one task from the trainer

A sample of how the WISO trainer will work when it opens: one task from its bank and the interactive graph from its theory article.

WISO · Markets and price formation

Movement along the curve or a shift of the curve?

Drag the price on the price axis, or a whole curve sideways. The arrow keys change the price by 5 cents.

Step by step · 1/5
This is the apple market: demand N and supply A cross at €2.50 per kg and 40 t, the equilibrium. In a moment the price rises to €3.00. At €3.00 the buyers want only 30 t instead of 40 t.

The price rises, the buyers want less. Does that shift the demand curve?

Pick an answer first
Left and right arrow keys move the demand curve by 10 t; with Shift, the supply curve.
price €2.50demanded 40 tsupplied 40 t
Exam, tick the statements. In one year the price of a good rises, and at the same time the quantity sold rises. Which of the following statements is/are correct? (a) The observation refutes the relationship between price and quantity demanded. (c) The observation is possible if income or preferences change the quantity at the same time. (d) Because two quantities rose at the same time, the demand curve slopes upward. (e) Price and quantity can only move together if there is a calculation error.
Program

What the entrance exam covers

The trainer will be organised by these parts of the exam.

  • Economics fundamentals, based on WU's own reading "Wirtschaft verstehen"
  • German comprehension; WU recommends regular reading of German-language quality media
  • General mathematics from WU's own numbered topic list (Themen 01–13): logic, algebra, functions, derivatives, probability and more
What you get

What the trainer will have

Tasks in economics, German and maths in WU's format, theory on the exam topics and an explanation of every answer, scored the way WU scores it.

Tasks for the three areas

A situation and five statements, as in WU's tasks, in economics, German and maths.

Theory

Short articles on the topics WU names for the exam, with exercises right in the text.

Explanation and score

After you answer you see which statements are true and why, and how many points your marks would get under WU's rules.

For the WISO entrance procedure WU publishes the duration (2 hours, in person), the three areas (economics fundamentals, German comprehension, mathematics), the task format and the partial-credit scoring system. How many tasks fall to each area and where a pass mark would sit it does not publish. Our simulation is part of the trainer and reproduces WU's format and scoring; the split between areas is our own choice and not a WU requirement.

Three areas: economics, based on WU's own reading Wirtschaft verstehen; German comprehension, for which WU recommends reading quality newspapers; and mathematics, topics 01 to 13 from logic to the binomial distribution, at the level of the Austrian AHS Matura.

In principle any calculator, as long as it cannot solve systems of linear equations, multiply matrices, differentiate or integrate, and has no text memory. WU names the TI-30XS MultiView, TI-30X Plus MultiView, TI-30X Plus MathPrint and TI-30X IIS as allowed and the TI-30X Pro MathPrint as not allowed. Anyone caught with a forbidden calculator is excluded.

Not below zero. Questions with one right answer are scored all or nothing; on questions with several right answers each right tick earns points and each wrong tick costs points, but a question never scores less than zero.

WU publishes the information for the 2027/28 procedure in mid-November. In the last cycle registration ran from early March to mid-May and the exam took place at the end of June, once a year with no alternative date.
