Exam Format

Written Exam ⏱️ 3 hours

  • 9–10 problems
  • Teil A + Teil B
  • Paper-based solution; simple (non-programmable) calculator allowed — see list below

Oral Exam 🎤 ~20 minutes

  • 15 minutes to solve 2–3 simplified problems (shorter than written ones)
  • Then explanation of solution and reasoning to a 3-person committee
  • Exemption possible with ≥3/4 bonus points

  • Grading scale: 1 (very good), 2 (good), 3 (satisfactory), 4 (sufficient), 5 (insufficient/unsatisfactory).
  • Grade 5 is negative: exam not passed; maximum four retakes allowed.
  • Certificate issuance: on scheduled days; have ID with you.

EPM FAQ

The EPM covers: probability theory, trigonometry, functions and tangents, analytical geometry (vectors, lines, planes), curve sketching, definite integrals, sequences and series, and exponential functions. The exam has 9-10 problems split into Teil A (basic) and Teil B (advanced).

The written part is 3 hours. The oral exam (if required) takes about 20 minutes: 15 minutes to solve 2-3 simplified problems, then explaining your solution to a 3-person committee.

You need at least 50% in Teil A, at least 50% in Teil B, and at least 50% overall (Gesamtnote). If you score high enough on the written part (3/4 of bonus points), you may be exempt from the oral exam.

Yes, but only simple non-programmable calculators from the approved list. Allowed models include: Casio FX-82, FX-85 series, TI-30 series, and others. Graphing and programmable calculators are not allowed.

You can bring: photo ID, writing supplies (pens, pencil, eraser), ruler/triangle, approved calculator, and the official Formelsammlung (formula collection) without personal notes. Electronic devices like phones and smartwatches must be turned off.

The exam fee is 66 euros per attempt. This covers both the written and oral parts — no additional payment for the oral exam.

You can retake the exam up to 4 times (maximum 5 total attempts). Each attempt costs 66 euros.

No. You can register for the exam without being enrolled in VWU courses. You only need a valid Bescheid (admission notice) from a Viennese university that requires the Ergänzungsprüfung.
