VWU Vienna · Ergänzungsprüfung Chemie

A trainer for the oral Chemistry exam at the VWU

We are building a trainer with questions for the three areas of the exam and calculations that are checked right away, units included. Below you can solve one calculation.

Next oral window: 30 November to 3 December 2026 · in 8 weeks

Our approach

Put the electrons in the boxes yourself

An example of how the trainer will work: the stage checks every electron against the rules of the first question, then a task asks you to apply them to another atom.

Chemie · Electron configuration

Electrons in boxes: nitrogen and iron

Drag electrons (the spin arrows) from the tray into the orbital boxes. A wrong move springs back, and the box says which rule it breaks.

Step by step · 1/5
Nitrogen, N: 7 electrons. A box is an orbital, an arrow is an electron and its spin. The level with the lowest energy fills first, 1s. Drag two electrons into the 1s box. Try both with the arrow up.
Drag arrows from the tray into the 1s box
The boxes and the tray are worked with a pointer or a finger; the guide above says what to put where.
element N, Z = 7electrons 0configuration
Exam, question 1. The term list for the first question names electron configuration, Hund's rule and the Pauli principle. The exam is oral, and the information sheet asks you to explain step by step: write the configuration out in boxes and name the rule by which you place each electron.
Program

The three question areas

The trainer will be organised by these parts of the exam.

  • Question 1: general and inorganic chemistry, sections 1 and 2. On the keyword list, for example: electron configuration, Hund's rule, the Pauli principle, Lewis formulas
  • Question 2: thermodynamics, equilibrium, electrochemistry, acid-base reactions and stoichiometry, section 3 plus calculations from sections 1 and 2. On the keyword list, for example: the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation, Gibbs free energy, the Nernst equation
  • Question 3: organic chemistry, section 4. On the keyword list, for example: hybridisation of carbon, Markovnikov's rule, E/Z isomerism, chirality
What you get

What the trainer will have

Questions for all three areas with the steps explained, theory built on the official keyword list and calculations with the full solution.

Questions for the three areas

Tasks for every area of the exam. In your answer you explain how you got to the result.

Theory from the keyword list

Terms from the official VWU list as short tasks: explain them out loud in your own words.

Calculations explained

Your answer is checked right away, and the explanation shows the full solution with every unit.

The Chemistry trainer is on its way

No price and no start date yet. Join the waitlist and we will write once, the day it opens.

Waitlist
  • Questions for each of the three areas, with the steps explained
  • Calculations checked as you go, units included
  • The keyword list turned into short explain-it-aloud tasks

You sign in with your Google account, come back to this page and confirm with one click.

One question per area, each at least half right

Explain step by step how you got there, as the information sheet asks. In calculations, show the full working and all units, as the practice set for section 3 asks.

Preparation and exam

Frequently asked questions

We are not naming a date yet. On the day the trainer opens, everyone on the waitlist gets one email.

You have 20 minutes to prepare and 10 minutes of exam in front of a commission of three. There are 3 questions, one from each area, and each must be answered to at least 50 %.

Question 1 covers general and inorganic chemistry; question 2 thermodynamics, equilibrium, electrochemistry, acid-base reactions and stoichiometry, with calculations; question 3 organic chemistry.

Bring your own non-programmable calculator. The periodic table, the formula sheet and the tables are provided at the exam.

Each of the 3 questions must be answered to at least 50 %. The information sheet does not say how the grade is formed beyond that, so we do not guess.

The exam fee is €46, and an exam can be repeated at most four times. The next oral exams run from 30 November to 3 December 2026; registration is open from 16 to 29 October 2026.
